NRMP Client and Technical Support Specialist (HR1437)

Responsibilities: The Client and Technical Support Specialist provides front-line support to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) by responding to phone calls and e-mails from NRMP constituents, including medical students, residency programs directors, and medical school student affairs deans. Questions deal with the policies that govern NRMP matches, the matching algorithm, and use of the Web application used to manage all matches. Maintains the integrity of the NRMP database to ensure 100 percent accuracy; acts as primary liaison to assigned medical schools and teaching hospital officials; and participates in follow-up activities including telephone calls, e-mails, and distribution of reminder materials to non-compliant applicants, medical schools, and residency programs. The Specialist also independently manages multiple Specialties Matching Service fellowship matches, including communicating with the medical specialty societies, preparing print and Web-based materials, and coordinating with other staff to perform applicant and hospital file verification.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred; some college and 3-5 years of work experience may substitute. Experience in a fast-paced customer service environment and at least one year of computer-related experience strongly preferred. Sr. Administrative Associate (HR1472)

Responsibilities: Provide administrative support to several senior staff in the Data Resources & Studies (DRS) group under the direction of the section administrator. Responsibilities include: assisting in the coordination of intra-office and interdepartmental projects; collating, binding, and shipping publications and reports; maintaining calendars and scheduling appointments; meeting planning; organizing social functions and celebrations; creating PDFs; scheduling conference calls; taking meeting notes; coordinating speaking engagements; and arranging business travel. The AA will also work with vendors and contractors to finalize business transactions, oversee payment to vendors and contractors, create purchase orders, maintain business records, and perform maintenance of DRS Web sites. This is a great entry-level position with potential growth opportunities that could lead to a program assistant or research assistant position, depending on the skills and career goals of the incumbent.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred along with at least one year of experience as an administrative assistant. Successful candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent time management and organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to plan meetings and arrange business travel. Must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint. General office skills, meeting planning, and data management required. Research Analyst, Compensation Studies (HR1474)

Responsibilities: The Research Analyst will be a part of a team that maintains and updates a variety of compensation surveys, primarily the annual Faculty Salary Survey and the annual Deans' Compensation Survey. The major responsibilities of the position include collecting, analyzing, and editing survey data; producing Web-based data reports and paper publications; and creating customized data reports.

Requirements: Candidates should have at least five years of experience in collecting, verifying, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data from large-scale survey programs. No more than two years of this experience may be demonstrated through graduate courses, teaching assistantships, research assistantships, or related activities. A master's degree is required. Supervisor, Faculty Roster (HR1480)

Responsibilities: The AAMC is seeking a Supervisor for the AAMC Faculty Roster. The major responsibilities of the position include maintaining and refining Faculty Roster data services, including Web-based data management and reporting tools as well as ad hoc studies.

Research Analyst - NRMP (HR1486)

Responsibilities: The Research Analyst will work primarily with NRMP (National Resident Matching Program) Data and Publications. This position requires experience in the use of statistical programs, database manipulation tools, and in data graphing and data presentation software. Experience with Oracle, PowerPoint, SPSS, Crystal Reports, and Cold Fusion preferred. Specifically, the successful candidate will support the preparation and publication of the annual Results and Data Book for the Main Residency Match, the Specialties Matching Service, Advance Data Tables, and other related Web reports. This will also include data extraction and PowerPoint development. Additionally, this person will provide support for NRMP research projects and surveys and work with the Director of Research in developing materials for the Data Release and Research Committee meetings.

Requirements: Master's degree in education or a social science discipline with experience in statistical analysis and data presentation; Bachelor's degree with at least seven years of related experience may substitute. Senior Director, Strategic Service Operations - Repost (HR1496)

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Mission Support Officer, the successful candidate will have a broad technical and business background, but more importantly will be a savvy and articulate leader with the proven ability to drive operations and implement strategic changes as needed. Specifically, the Senior Director will: drive the strategic direction of our Web-based, centralized application service programs; implement a system of quality control, quality assessment, and performance metrics; foster an inclusive work environment that develops, motivates and values others; provide overall vision, leadership, and goals for existing and new service program initiatives; and build collaborative relationships, both internally and externally, through outreach, consultation and advocacy.

ERAS Senior Program Management Specialist - Repost (HR1506)

Responsibilities: The ERAS Senior Program Management Specialist is an integral member of the Mission Support, Application Services Cluster, which is responsible for technology-enabled medical school application services such as ERAS, MCAT, and AMCAS. This role embodies a great customer service orientation and requires an influential, energetic, and experienced self-starter with a history of successfully managing technology-enabled programs involving increasing levels of responsibility. Critical skills include: excellent problem solving, business communication, analytical skills, with experience working in cross-functional teams both internally and externally; strong attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously; senior level client relationship skills including experience articulating complex solutions and benefits; demonstrated ability to exercise broad judgment and flexibility in balancing program requirements and deadlines; and, strong business and technical aptitude to implement/convey technical and programmatic changes.

Manager, MCAT Preparation Products (HR1529)

Responsibilities: We are seeking a manager who can develop MCAT student preparation products that provide value to pre-health students and the faculty who support them and that are easily available to economically-disadvantaged students and faculty in under-resourced institutions. Specifically, we are looking for applicants with the following characteristics: knowledge of instructional systems design, instructional technology, curriculum development, or a related field; experience with instructional design in higher education or for adult learners; experience with a variety of instructional delivery models; experience collaborating with subject matter experts on instructional design; experience designing, costing, and managing complex projects; skilled at managing the work of dedicated staff, consultant staff, and contractors; excellent oral and written communication skills; and, excellent interpersonal and teaming skills.

Requirements: A master's degree in instructional systems design, instructional technology, curriculum development, or a related field is required; doctoral work is desirable. Sr. Research Analyst (HR1534)

Responsibilities: Team with director and other senior research analysts to assist with quantitative studies being conducted by other AAMC units. Review and refine on as requested statistical design in support of policy studies initiated in other units. Work on various survey questionnaires as requested; Areas of work will include student application behaviors, academic medicine faculty promotion and continuing education research. Prepare summaries, charts, tables, resource documents and reports at the national and institutional level for dissemination to constituents at AAMC events and publications. Respond to constituent requests for information, prepare and distribute summary materials on topic areas for which constituents frequently request information. Suggest enhancements to the web-based survey and reporting system. Participate as a senior member of a research team in conceptualizing, developing, managing, and implementing ongoing and ad hoc studies on the current and future medical school applicant pool, medical school attrition, retention, graduation, and the diversity of the medical student body. Prepare and present results of research studies at AAMC and other professional meetings. Collaborate with director and other unit staff members in the writing of Analysis in Briefs, papers and articles on such topics of student attitudes about diversity, the admissions process and preparation for medical education. Requirements: Doctorate in Educational Research or Evaluation preferred, or equivalent experience in social sciences or other quantitative disciplines. At least three years' experience in an applied educational research setting. Specific involvement in data collection, processing, and analysis on large data sets. Experience in communicating complex research results to non-technical audiences. Training in social science research techniques on large data sets and in the use of computers for the collection, data analysis and reporting, basic and intermediate statistics, and management of relational data bases. ERAS Client Technical Support Analyst (HR1540)

Responsibilities: The ERAS Client & Technical Support Analyst has the role of client advocate to provide high quality service via telephone and/or computer support to external ERAS users. Interface by telephone and e-mail with clients regarding problem-solving, marketing, policies, procedures, training, software enhancements, and the interaction of the software applications with other organizations. Investigate ERAS Post Office data files, client databases and logs, and performs queries on database tables in order to identify problems with file uploads/downloads. Identify possible inaccurate processing of files by the Post Office, the communications software or the distributed software. Participate with other ERAS staff in the review of current ERAS software and the identification of problem areas for future development and refinement. Participate in the design and testing of new enhancements. Convert client concerns into software recommendations. Communicate new issues to ERAS management and team members. Propose individual solutions or joins in team efforts to resolve problems. Work with clients to implement solutions. Develop and contributes to ERAS client support tools. Review and edits internal manuals. Provide input into the development of Web pages that educates clients on procedures, software usage and problem resolution. Create and maintain frequently asked questions (FAQ's) to address technical issues. Participate on specific task forces and teams as requested.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree and/or 3-5 years of experience in a help desk or customer service environment. Basic knowledge of database management, spread sheets, and graphics. Ability to learn technical information quickly and to answer in depth technical questions. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Keen eye for editing technical documentation and testing software requirements preferred. Proficiency working in a team environment. Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well under pressure. Excellent telephone and e-mail communication skills, and the ability to listen and articulate clearly in a patient and calming manner. Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to address problems in a systematic and careful manner. MCAT Administrative Specialist (HR1550)

Responsibilities: Provide administrative support to the senior director of the admissions testing, the director of test development, director of test administration and reporting, and manager of student preparation products and the 12 members of their teams. Responsibilities include: Make travel arrangements for and respond to ad hoc requests from 21 committee members. Coordinate travel and other activities with the administrative assistants of the chair and vice chair. Make hotel, catering, and other meeting arrangements for three or four committee meetings a year. Make travel and meeting arrangements for outreach activities, including town hall meetings, conference sessions, and school visits. Prepare and produce complex meeting materials. Requirements: A bachelor's degree is required; formal training in administrative support is desirable. Five or more years of experience supporting a senior executive is required; experience running a large office and managing multiple projects is desirable. Excellent project management and office management skills are needed. Must be able to independently coordinate projects and activities, problem solve, and prioritize. Skilled at organizing, multi-tasking, and tracking the progress and completion of projects is essential. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; communicating clearly and professionally with high-profile association members, other MCAT stakeholders, association colleagues, and staff is needed. Ability to handle ad hoc requests from large groups of association customers is essential. Attention to detail and accuracy are critical. Director, Specialties Matching Service (HR1553)

Responsibilities: We are seeking an experienced Director to join our Mission Support/NRMP cluster, which is responsible for Resident Matching Services and provides staff and infrastructure support, under contract, to the NRMP in its conduct of the Main Resident Match and various subspecialty matches. Reporting to the NRMP Executive Director, this high visibility/impact role requires a strong, decisive, influential, results-oriented leader with a history of providing strategic planning services and supervising staff. The Director will: develop, implement, administer, and evaluate a strategic plan to expand the Specialties Matching Service; participate in the day-to-day implementation of NRMP policies and procedures; prepare and present reports to the NRMP Board of Directors summarizing participation in the Specialties Matching Service; direct and supervise the NRMP Help Desk specialists and manage staff assignments to ensure all program deadlines are met; coordinate implementation of systems and communication tools to assesses quality of service and customer satisfaction; and coordinate off-site exhibits at GME program director meetings and the AAMC annual meeting to demonstrate the NRMP web application and answer policy-related questions.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred, with at least seven years of high-level professional experience, preferably in a leadership position responsible for strategic planning and managing personnel. Experience developing, implementing, and administering a strategic plan to expand a major organizational function, including collaborating with a board of directors to set goals and objectives, marketing the plan to constituents via written publications and public presentations, and ongoing assessment of success. Ability to independently analyze, solve and respond to problematic situations in a high-stakes and time-sensitive environment. Successful track record in developing and managing professional development programs. Excellent presentation/facilitation, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills. Strong ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships both internally and across the academic community. Demonstrated ability/interest in motivating and building high-performance teams. UNIX Administrator (HR1430)

Responsibilities: The Systems Administrator is responsible for administering UNIX, Linux, Solaris, and BigIPs for our customers. The administrator participates in managing the technical requirements and operations for monitoring as well as the day-to-day administration of monitoring tools that gauge operating systems, network, Oracle databases, IP load balancing (BigIP), web application servers (Java servlet, J2EE, PHP and Cold Fusion) and computer hardware performance and health. The Administrator also works closely with other Systems Administrators and DBAs to maintain systems availability and to directly support application development and QA test teams. Some key responsibilities: Monitor and respond to issues on BigIP, ColdFusion, PHP/Apache, Websphere, Tomcat, Jini, Linux and Solaris servers; maintain PHP/Apache, Java Websphere and Tomcat, BigIP, ColdFusion & Java Jini, Linux and Solaris servers; assist developers and project managers with infrastructure policies and be a point of contact for technical assistance; participate or techical leadership in projects to upgrade or migrate infrastructure systems and services; assist developers in migrating their code into environments beyond the development environment; participate in planned maintenance windows; provide key verification assistance; and provide capacity planning for supported server platforms.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or related field along with 2 years of experience in systems monitoring administration/architecture UNIX/Linux is architecture required; RHCE preferred. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and popular Internet services; experience with F5 BigIP; demonstrated knowledge of administering, Apache, Tomcat, PHP and Cold Fusion services. Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS preferred; Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, HA clustering with Heartbeat and DRBD pluses Experience with CVS administration is required. Systems administration-level knowledge of DNS/BIND, SMTP/Sendmail, SNMP/NetSNMP, KERBEROS+AD, NIS, SAMBA, NFS, Perl and shell scripting are major pluses. Extensive experience in TCP/IP networking is required; experience supporting Java application development a major plus. Solid communication and interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to mentor staff; a consistently high energy level and a team orientation are musts; should be versatile and able to switch gears rapidly. Software Engineer (HR1442) - Java Pro

Responsibilities: The Software Engineer will serve our engaging and leading-edge Institutional Data Systems business unit within our large and thriving IT group. Working collaboratively with other Developers, PMs, and QA staff, you will develop software solutions using Web-based apps including Java and XML. You will gather requirements, code/debug/perform unit and systems integration tests, document new apps and enhancements, perform ongoing technical maintenance, and provide support for assigned apps. PMO Project Manager (HR1500)

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Sr. Director of the PMO, this new expansion position is responsible for the management of one or more medium to large-sized, moderate to highly complex projects—business program and/or technology-enabled. You will manage all aspects of assigned projects over their life—from initiation to closure—as well as manage the knowledge areas of project management including: scope, time, cost, resources, risk, communication, project integration, procurement and quality. You will also be responsible for convening the project team from a pool of matrix resources and assigning individual responsibilities to members. The critical facets of the role are: Process and standards development; strategy, vision, and collaboration; communication and diplomacy; planning; schedule/time management; and project monitoring and control. This highly-visible role requires extensive interaction with technical staff, internal AAMC program management staff, external constituents, and vendors. It requires the ability to effectively communicate, lead, and manage project teams on projects with high levels of functional and architectural integration. Requirements: Bachelors degree; graduate degree in computer science, engineering, business, or management is preferred. PMP certification highly desired. 7+ years experience in development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware and software platforms; Big Five consulting experience a plus. Knowledge and prior experience in the business operations, organization, and administration of medical schools and/or academic health centers desirable. At least 5 years of management experience, in which one or more of the following occurred: demonstrated competency in the execution of multiple large projects; demonstrated competency in leadership and rapport-building; gained experience in managing matrix resources across multiple projects; gained experience in leading multidiscipline work teams/groups; demonstrated competency in developing effective solutions to complex business problems; and experience successfully meeting major project challenges despite project complexity and risk. Significant experience and knowledge in new computing architectures and implementation of networked computing structures, preferably utilizing UML, and SOA techniques implemented using Java, Oracle, XML or Web Services. Software Engineer (HR1509)

Responsibilities: The Software Engineer will perform analysis, design, development, and unit testing of software applications from user requirements and design documents. Resolves defects encountered during various testing cycles. Duties include but are not limited to: coding, testing, and implementing programs; developing system documentation according to established standards; providing operational support to existing applications; and mentoring junior software engineers.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree, preferably in a computer-related field, with 2-5 years of relevant experience. Candidates should understand the concepts, practices, and procedures of common software development methodologies and associated artifacts, and be able to apply them to complex projects. Staff Editor (HR1546)

Responsibilities: Perform substantive editing of a variety of scholarly manuscripts, including (a) editing the content to ensure that information in clearly organized and written and is presented according to journal policy and style guidelines and (b) incorporating appropriate feedback from reviewers, the Editor, and other journal staff. Work collegially with the authors throughout the editing process, raising necessary questions, negotiating changes, giving feedback, enforcing policies, and coming to agreement on a final version for publication. Work with the staff editor in charge of production to oversee the articles through the production process. Consult with the journal staff in decision-making on style and policy issues related to editing. Manage the review process for approximately 1/4 of all manuscripts sent out for review, including assessing reviews, using both reviewers' comments and own professional judgment to make publication recommendations to the editor-in-chief and communicating decisions (including revision requirements) to authors. Perform other journal duties, to include back-up editing for various parts of the journal, oversight and/or editing on special projects (such as supplements), assignments on long-term project teams, attending conferences to promote the journal, and others as assigned.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree, preferable in English, desired. Substantive experience may be substituted 3-5 years of related publication experience with strong knowledge of editing and proofreading is required; experience editing quantitative research is a plus. Government Relations

Program Specialist (HR1552)

Responsibilities: The Program Specialist in Government Relations (GR) serves as the primary program support for GR's clinical advocacy. Duties include but are not limited to: working with GR clinical advocacy staff to prepare congressional correspondence and briefing materials, coordinating with appropriate staff to prepare and post web-based advocacy materials; ongoing web audit of GR clinical advocacy content for relevance and timeliness; coordinating logistics for briefings and meetings; and assisting as assigned with special projects. Administrative duties include responding to phone calls and e-mail inquiries for clinical advocacy, shared preparation of Washington Highlights, and monitoring of compliance of clinical advocacy team with lobbying disclosures. The successful candidate will interact frequently with government officials/staff as necessary to arrange meetings between Government Relations staff and policymakers, external associations, & member institutions.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience and a minimum of two to three years professional experience interacting with Congressional staff and/or high-level executives from external organizations. Experience with the management of projects requiring attention to detail, ability to support and manage logistical activities and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. Strong abilities to communicate effectively and organize are essential. Candidates must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and possess general office skills. Knowledge of Web-authoring software is preferred, but not required. Attention to detail, willingness to develop additional skills, interest in the mission of the AAMC, and willingness to participate in HR-sponsored professional development trainings is a must.
