Preparedness
The AAMC recognizes the importance of the medical community's preparedness
in responding to any disaster or large-scale threat to our public health. The
AAMC is focused on ensuring that the nation's teaching hospitals
and medical schools have the necessary tools and information so
that the physician workforce can respond appropriately.
AAMC-CDC Cooperative Agreement
The AAMC will work closely with the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC), under the auspices of the AAMC-CDC
Cooperative Agreement, on all activities planned to ensure that
the physician workforce will be prepared to deal with future biological,
radiation, and chemical terrorist activities.
NIH Research Grantees
The
NIH has acknowledged that the widespread damage caused by a disaster
may lead to problems for investigators who plan to submit grant
applications. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has created a Web site, NIH Extramural Response to Natural Disasters and Other Emergencies, to provide information to researchers and institutions. The site will include updates in response to current emergencies as well as NIH emergency contact information.
