Medical Research

Polio vaccine. Balloon angioplasty. The science of genomics.

Researchers at medical schools and teaching hospitals represented by the AAMC are responsible for these and many other medical breakthroughs. As major centers of medical research, the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals conduct more than half of all extramural research sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. From new approaches in prevention and diagnosis to successful treatments and cures, research advances pioneered at AAMC-member institutions dramatically improve the health of our nation.
